Good morning,

Let’s clarify this week’s email subject line. It’s the Dr. George Charity Car Show this weekend. And it’s Valentine’s Day too!

So if you love cars, then you know where to be. And don’t forget your sweetheart on Valentine’s! 😉 

Regarding gas prices in California… I’m not sure how the situation isn’t going to get hairy for us drivers and lawmakers alike.

Because another recent refinery shutdown has CA’s average per gallon at $4.50. And that’s while the US average is $2.92.

So the $1.58 difference is about what we’ve been used to. For the 6-years I’ve been watching closely the magic number we hover around is $1.60 more than the rest of the US.

My prediction is that when CA prices near $2.00 per gallon more than the rest of the country. Drivers will start revving their voices.

And that’s when local news media will cover it. But they’ll do so from the oblivious perspective of, “gee, what’s causing our high gas prices?” Guaranteed.

Then lawmakers will claim big oil is price gouging - again.

However, the predictable pattern will only go so far. This time is very likely to be different. Because too many oil companies have bailed on our state.
