Cool Cruise Car Show 😎 Lots More!

Howdy,

I'm sending this a couple of hours late - just back from San Diego.

And driving from San Diego to Los Angeles counties is something I haven't done in a while - straight through anyway.

It's remarkable the difference in highway conditions going from San Diego, through Orange County, and into LA County.

First, crossing the county line from SD to OC is a night/day difference.  The I-5 surface gets smoother.  And the lack of debris on the shoulder is immediately noticed.

Arguably, it's a shocking difference.  How nice Orange County's portion of the highway is compared to San Diego County.  But OC isn't perfect.  There's a stretch where it looks like road construction crews are locked in for years to come.

However, when you hit LA County it's kinda Third World Country.  The 405's surface is mostly rough.  And debris on the shoulder is an embarrassing representation of Southern California's former greatness.

For LA County highways, the worst thing I've noticed lately are fires on the side of the road.  Not from car trouble but from homeless encampments.  I don't know if it's their cooking fires gone out of control or something else.  But there's nothing good about these fires.  They're bad for the environment, traffic and dangerous to everyone.

Have you experienced something similar?  I'd love to know.  How do we get the rest of SoCal's highways like the good stretch of Orange County's?

Your replies are always welcome.

Drive on,
